Hylian Shield - Legend of Zelda
The Legend brought to life
Having been a Legend of Zelda game fan for years, I knew that the Hylian shield was a project I wanted to bring to life. The iconic shield not only protected me in-game, but when brought into reality, also served as a reminder that dreams could be brought into reality.
From the rubble comes a hero
This prop was created from extra materials left over from my competition rocket builds. This prop was made using only 1/8″ basswood, 6mm EVA foam, PVC pipe, and leather straps. Each material was cut by hand and layered to create a size-accurate shield replica.
a Surprise finish
When designing the shield's red emblem, there were curing issues with the paint. The red paint "orange peeled", creating a rough surface instead of a pristine smooth covering of color. This wrinkling of the surface was most likely due to unfavorable painting conditions (such as humidity and temperature) or the timing between paint coats. Instead of ruining the project, however, the texture actually worked well with the shield design, and was not sanded down.
